Brights for a blank canvas.

We’re really looking forward to seeing these design boards implemented in the next few weeks. With the brief ‘to make sense of a lifetimes collection of furniture, accessories and artwork from across the globe’ and infuse a white space with our clients love of bold colours, the journey so far has been a fun one.

With playful wallpapers and striking fabrics in every room, we’re excited to see the finished results once the decorators have finished! Watch this space!

Historical display for New Forest Hotels

bartley lodge display

We had fun in the office last week re-creating the original mineral display boxes for the New Forest Hotels Bartley Lodge. The former childhood home of renowned geologist Charles Lyell, the hotel ground floor is home to copies of letters between Charles Darwin and Charles Lyell along with this informative mineral display box.

We utilised a new wallpaper ‘Galapagos’ from Sanderson, which features an ancient map of the Galapagos islands – a place visited by Darwin carrying a copy of Lyell’s book ‘The Principles of Geology’.

Visit and for more information, or find our more about Charles Lyell here.

The Etre team’s best of 2013

To end the year we decided it would be fun to put together design boards of our favourite things from 2013. Alex, Emily and Jody have put together theirs –  and as you can see they show the huge differences in personal design taste in the office!

Jody – “Rustic Neon – Continuing with my ongoing love affair of all things neon and natural combined. A hint of bright colour accents a white backdrop with rustic wood and natural materials. Colour dipped ceramics and wooden accessories, homemade woollen pom poms, neon printed linen cushions and bright herringbone wool blankets combine the look.”

Emily – “I decided to combine my love of all things deco with some traditional patterns and heavyweight geometrics. I’ve loved Forest Green for decades (despite it being my school uniform colour) and I love how it sits with mustard yellow and black. Amy Somerville’s tiles are something I discovered at Decorex this year, and I’d love to own the Hermes Rallye 24 table settings in black and yellow… Hopefully Santa will get the message!”

Alex – “A selection of impactful geometric patterns and earthy ethnic textiles provide a great background to more muted pieces with the warm textiles bringing a great handmade feel to spaces. The raw, unsophisticated feel is continued with distressed wood and uncoated metal pieces, finalised with attention paid to detailing and pops of accent colours.”
